University of Tartu Spring Run

University of Tartu Spring Run

Wednesday, 10th April 2024 at 19.00

Distance: 5 km

The five-kilometre University of Tartu Spring Run and the University of Tartu Spring Walk start on 10 April at 19:00 next to the university’s sports hall, where also the race centre is located. The finish closes at 20:30.

The University of Tartu Spring Run and Walk aims to promote healthy lifestyles, emphasise the link between mental health and physical activity, and provide enjoyment of outdoor activity for all sports enthusiasts. In addition, the event aims to raise awareness of Tartu’s network of pedestrian and cycling paths and to encourage people to notice their surroundings and sights. Participants can cover the distance at their own pace.

The organisers encourage the members of the University of Tartu and other higher education institutions to enjoy getting some exercise together. Besides the overall standings, the Spring Run will determine the fastest students in the students’ championship as well as the fastest higher education institution. Winners will receive prizes, and there will be raffle prizes and an entertainment programme. The Spring Walk is not a competition to determine the winner but a recreational health and fitness event.

Runners and walkers start next to the University of Tartu sports hall, pass the University of Tartu Delta Centre and move along the riverbank toward the city centre. A right turn onto the Kaarsild offers a beautiful view of Tartu Town Hall Square, and another right turn takes participants onto the other bank of the river Emajõgi. Following the pedestrian and cycle track, participants arrive at the Supilinna pond. The course goes around the pond and turns back towards the sports hall along Oa street. After crossing Marja street, the route passes the Supilinna swing and returns to the pedestrian and cycle path on the bank of the river. Turning left at the Kroonuaia bridge, participants cross the bridge and turn left again to finish next to the University of Tartu sports hall.
